Combating Obesity for Alachua County’s Health
The purpose of our walks is to call attention to obesity and its harmful effects on health. The walks are an opportunity for residents of Alachua County to participate in a group walking experience, as an example of the modification of behavior that can assist in weight control. A registration number will be assigned to each individual when register for the walk.
After the second walk, each participant will be given a pedometer and after the third walk each participant will be given a small log book in which to keep a daily log of exercising and eating habits.
The COACH committee would like to measure the impact of these events. Participants can help by maintaining the log and providing us with an anonymous report of exercise activity, weight and health status throughout the coming year. The registration number will be used as an identifier for purposes of data collection and collation. However, providing this data is not a requirement for participation.
You will receive a survey requesting this information after you have registered and begun to participate in our walks. Required demographics will include, age, sex, race, medically status, level of prior activity, height, weight and stride length.
Please assist us in this important aspect of our effort.
